See a doctor urgently if
- Severe headache, high fever, swelling or redness around the eye, or vision changes with sinus symptoms need emergency care

If you have a medical emergency, call 112 or go to the nearest hospital. Do not wait for an enquiry reply.
Causes and risk factors
- Infections and allergies
- Nasal polyps
- A bent septum or narrow drainage channels
- Immune or other medical conditions
- Smoke and pollution exposure
How a doctor assesses it
An ENT doctor reviews your symptoms and examines the nose with a small camera. A CT scan of the sinuses is usually advised before surgery to map the passages. The doctor first checks whether a full course of medical treatment has been tried.
Who may need it
Surgery is considered for chronic sinus disease that has not improved with proper medical treatment. The ENT surgeon decides after examination and scans.
Treatment options
Medicines and nasal care
Saline rinses, nasal sprays and other medicines come first. A doctor advises which and for how long.
Allergy care
If allergy plays a role, treating it can help reduce symptoms.
FESS
A camera and fine instruments widen the sinus openings through the nostrils, with no outside cuts.
Combined surgery
It may be combined with septum surgery or polyp removal, depending on your anatomy.
What the procedure involves
FESS is done under general anaesthesia. The surgeon uses a thin camera and small instruments to remove blockages and polyps and widen the drainage channels. Packing or splints may be placed for a short time.
Many people go home the same day. Regular nasal rinses and follow-up visits are an important part of recovery.
Recovery
- Nasal blockage and mild discomfort for some days
- Saline rinses and medicines as advised
- Avoid blowing the nose hard and heavy activity for a time
- Follow-up visits to clean the nose and check healing
- Healing takes weeks
Everyone heals differently. Follow your own surgeon's instructions.
Risks
- Bleeding
- Infection
- Scar tissue forming in the nose
- Persistent or returning symptoms
- Injury to the eye or brain lining, which is rare but serious
- Changes in smell
- Risks linked to anaesthesia
Your surgeon will explain which risks matter most for you. No result can be guaranteed.
Cost and payment
The cost of sinus surgery treatment depends on your case and cannot be fixed without a medical assessment. These are the main things that change it:
- Whether septum or polyp surgery is combined
- CT scan and other tests
- Type of anaesthesia and length of stay
- The hospital or day-care centre and the room type
- The surgeon's and anaesthetist's fees
- Tests and scans before surgery
- Medicines, dressings and follow-up visits
- Whether you pay in cash, use EMI or claim insurance
Our team explains your options for cash, EMI and insurance, helps you compare packages and handles insurance paperwork. Try the EMI calculator to plan your payments. Insurance cover depends on your policy and insurer, and approval cannot be promised.

Frequently asked questions
Do all sinus problems need surgery?
No. Most improve with medicines and care. Surgery is for long-lasting disease that does not respond.
Is FESS done through cuts on the face?
No. It is done through the nostrils with a camera, so no outside cuts show.
Can sinus problems come back after surgery?
Yes. Aftercare and managing allergy matter, and a doctor will advise.
Will my sense of smell return?
It may improve, but not always. Your surgeon can explain what is likely.
Can you help with insurance and EMI?
Yes. Our team explains cash, EMI and insurance options and helps with the paperwork. Insurance cover depends on your policy and insurer, and approval cannot be promised.
